M. Elayne DeSimone, PhD, NP-C, FAANP, serves as the Editor in Chief for the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners since May 2023 and is a member of the Board of Advisors for the Chester Community Coalition, which addresses gun violence and provides behavioral health services. With extensive involvement in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners since 1991, DeSimone has received the NYS AANP award for Excellence and became a fellow in 2007. As a Family and Adult Nurse Practitioner at Community Volunteers in Medicine since July 2006, commitment to education is evident through mentorship of NP, PA, and medical students. Previous roles include Expert Nursing Consultant at Consultants in Nursing, Clinical Professor and Director of the MSN Program at Widener University, and Professor of Nursing at Temple University. DeSimone's academic background includes a PhD in Nursing from Adelphi University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Stony Brook University, and a Post Master's Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner from Widener University.
