Calais Prince, Ph.D.

Associate Director, Science and Health Policy at American Association For Cancer Research

Calais Prince, Ph.D. has extensive work experience in various scientific and policy roles. From 2021 to present, as the Associate Director of Science and Health Policy at the American Association for Cancer Research, Calais advocates for and analyzes issues related to cancer health disparities, tobacco products and cancer, cancer screening, and other cancer prevention and public health matters. Calais also formulates forward-thinking policy recommendations for Capitol Hill and federal agencies.

Prior to that, from 2019 to 2021, Calais served as a 2019-2021 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the United States Department of Defense. In this role, Calais advised on disparities and minority health within the Defense Health Agency Behavioral Health Diversity Working Group. Calais drafted diversity policy memos and collaborated with stakeholders to influence maternal and infant health policy. Additionally, Calais conducted gap and comparative analyses of public and military health data to contribute to Department of Defense policies.

From 2017 to 2019, Calais worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Intramural Research Program (IRP). In this position, Calais authored minority health issue briefs and conducted portfolio analyses of funded projects to assess their impact on underrepresented and rural populations. Calais also designed and managed a study on the social determinants of health's impact on biological indicators of aging at the National Institute on Aging.

From 2010 to 2017, Calais was a Graduate Researcher at UT Health San Antonio. Calais managed multiple projects related to obesity, ethnicity, and organ function, presenting the results to local and international audiences. Calais also submitted grant proposals on the impact of maternal obesity on placenta function in different ethnic groups.

Lastly, from 2006 to 2009, Calais worked as a Staff Resident and Resident Assistant at Purdue University.

Calais Prince, Ph.D. pursued higher education in the field of life sciences. From 2003 to 2009, Calais attended Purdue University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. The field of study during this time was Animal Science and Behavioral Neuroscience. Continuing their academic journey, Calais enrolled at UT Health San Antonio from 2010 to 2017, focusing on Cell Biology and Anatomy. Calais successfully earned a Ph.D. degree in this field from UT Health San Antonio.
