Martin Swarbrick has a diverse range of work experience in the field of chemistry and cancer research. Martin has held various roles and positions at different organizations throughout their career.

Starting in 1998, Martin worked as a Post Doc at the University of Montreal until July 1999. Martin then joined GlaxoSmithKline in August 1999 as a Senior Team Leader in Medicinal Chemistry and Lead Optimisation Project Leader, where they remained until October 2008.

In 2006, Martin became a member of the Organic Division Executive Committee and the Heterocyclic and Synthesis Group Committee at the Royal Society of Chemistry. Martin held these positions until June 2011 and December 2008, respectively.

From November 2008 to June 2021, Martin served as an Associate Director at Cancer Research UK Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories. During their time there, they led the Chemistry, DMPK and Protein Sciences, and Structural Biology functions. Martin also temporarily served as the head of Screening and Compound Profiling from July 2020 to April 2021.

In 2013, Martin became a member of the Biological and Medicinal Chemistry Sector Committee at the Royal Society of Chemistry. Martin has also been a Committee Member at the Society for Medicines Research since January 2019.

Since January 2018, Martin has been involved with the American Association for Cancer Research as a Chemistry in Cancer Research Working Group Communications Subcommittee Member. Martin has also chaired the subcommittee from 2022 to 2024.

Starting from June 2021, Martin joined Ryvu Therapeutics as the Director of R&D Chemistry.

Additionally, Martin has held the position of Visiting Senior Fellow at the University of Reading since 2014.

Martin Swarbrick began their education at Hutton Grammar School in Preston, UK, where they obtained their high school degree from 1983 to 1990. Martin then went on to The University of Sheffield, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from 1991 to 1994. Following their undergraduate studies, Martin continued their education at The University of Sheffield, earning a PhD in Chemistry between 1994 and 1997. After completing their doctoral studies, they pursued a Post Doc at the Université de Montréal from 1998 to 1999, specializing in Chemistry.
