José A. Cabrales

José A. Cabrales, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience that spans various industries and organizations. José A. began their career in 1997 as an Admissions-Latina/o Outreach specialist at Santa Clara University. Subsequently, they worked at Blue Shield of California as a Sales Account Service Representative and later as a Marketing Project/Logistics Coordinator. Afterward, they joined Michigan State University, where they held several roles, including Assistant Hall Director, Career Advisor, and Undergraduate Application Reader. In 2001, they became the Southwest Regional Director for Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc., overseeing 19 undergraduate chapters. In 2002, they transitioned to Iowa State University, where they served as a Graduate Research Assistant. In 2012, they joined Excelencia in Education as a Constituency Engagement Manager and later became a Program Manager for Community Engagement. From 2015 to 2018, Cabrales worked at The Education Trust as a Senior Associate for Higher Education Practice. Most recently, they have held various positions at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), including Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Vice President and Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff, Senior Director of Student Success Programs & Operations, and Program Director of Student Success.
