Saarah Jappie

Saarah Jappie, PhD, currently serves as a Senior Program Officer at the American Council of Learned Societies since August 2025, following a tenure in a similar role at the Social Science Research Council from January 2023 to July 2025. Prior experience includes Program Officer for the Transregional Collaboratory on the Indian Ocean and the Arts Research with Communities of Color programs at the Social Science Research Council from October 2019 to June 2022, and Lecturer in History at the University of the Witwatersrand from January 2018 to October 2019. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in History from Princeton University, completed in 2018, a Master of Arts in History from the University of Cape Town, and a Bachelor of International Studies from UNSW. Research roles span from Assistant positions related to significant historical projects to teaching and supporting academic writing at the University of Cape Town and Princeton University.
