Shelvia English, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience that spans over many years. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Director of Access, Diversity & Inclusion at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) starting from August 2022. Prior to joining ADEA, they worked as a Consultant & Coach at Sterling-English Consulting & Coaching, LLC.

From 2015 to 2022, Shelvia held various roles at the University of Maryland. Shelvia served as the Assistant Director of Incentive Awards Program, where they managed a program budget, supervised staff, and provided support to students. Shelvia also worked as the Coordinator for Student Services in the same program, overseeing the study abroad program and offering guidance to students. Additionally, they worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Student Affairs Concentration department, assisting with orientations and providing administrative support.

Shelvia began their career as an Assistant Residence Director at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where they managed a residential hall and supervised resident assistants.

Throughout their career, Shelvia has gained valuable experience in program management, coaching and consulting, student support, and leadership.

Shelvia English, Ph.D. completed their education in a sequential manner, with their most recent degree obtained in 2019. Shelvia earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Student Affairs Concentration from the University of Maryland. Before that, they received a Master's Degree in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011. Shelvia's educational journey began with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development, with a minor in American Studies, which they obtained from Wheelock College in 2009.
