 The Sr Compliance Analyst position at American Equity plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization’s adherence to regulatory standards and fostering a culture of compliance.  This position plays a crucial role in the following important functions: consumer complaint resolution, regulatory insurance exams, agent monitoring, unclaimed property reporting, and assisting with resolving escalated administration issues.  This is an essential role on the team responsible for maintaining the company’s reputation, operational integrity, and legal and regulatory compliance.

This role will have a hybrid on-site work schedule out of our West Des Moines office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Researches, analyzes, investigates and resolves assigned cases / complaints using various resources including documentation, database systems, logs, etc.; utilizes problem solving techniques and creative solutions for fair outcomes and resolution.
  • Collaborates with a wide array of parties including but not limited to company personnel, agents, insurance departments, and authorities to resolve issues.
  • Assists with state regulatory, financial and market conduct exams, corresponds with regulators as needed, and maintains internal materials such as policies, manuals and reports.
  • Supports regular reviews and audits of agents and their activities to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Coordinates other exams and reviews such as reinsurance reviews conducted by 3rd parties.
  • Reviews and responses to remediation resulting from any regulatory, financial or market conduct exams.
  • Assists with inforce individual life and cancer policy services and operations.
  • Performs audits or reviews as requested by management or as potential issues are identified.
  • Fields product tax questions from product development, operations, agents or contract holders as needed and assists with the transition of this function to the product tax team.
  • Assists with monthly senior management reporting information.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and training to other team members on resolution, regulatory exams, agent monitoring.
  • Maintains professional contact with regulatory bodies, and relevant trade groups. Attends other industry meetings and workshops as appropriate to stay current with compliance trends.

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in business administration, finance or related field of study; plus, three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience in the insurance industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical/operational procedures.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
