Dewayne Lummus

Dewayne Lummus was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of the Company on November 30, 2021.

Prior to joining American Equity, he was the Managing Director and Corporate Controller of Equitable Financial Life Insurance Company where, since 2019, he managed all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, reinsurance accounting and administration, and finance systems strategy.

Previously, Mr. Lummus served as Chief Financial Officer, Retail Financial Products, at Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America, from 2015-2019, where he oversaw segment-focused brokerage, insurance, educational savings, and wealth management solutions. Before 2015, Dewayne was the deputy controller at Teachers and, prior to that, held various financial accounting and reporting positions with Voya (formerly ING).

Mr. Lummus graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and is a certified public accountant. Dewayne has over 25 years of experience in the life insurance industry.
