Gillian Harper

Director, Human Resources at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Gillian Harper, PHR, SHRM-CP has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of human resources. Gillian is currently working as the Director of Human Resources at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention since July 2019. In addition, Gillian has also worked as an Executive Coach and Human Resources Consultant as a self-employed contractor starting from December 2020.

Before that, they served as the Senior Human Resources Manager at The Fund for Public Health in New York City from 2018 to 2019. Prior to that, Gillian held the position of Human Resources Manager at The Door - A Center of Alternatives, University Settlement Society of New York, and Broome Street Academy Charter High School from 2013 to 2018.

Gillian's career in human resources started at Trinity Wall Street, where they had multiple roles, including Operations Manager/Administrative Project Manager from 2010 to 2013, Human Resources Associate from 2008 to 2010, and HR Assistant from 2005 to 2008.

Gillian Harper, PHR, SHRM-CP has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College (2003-2005). Gillian also holds a Professional Certificate in Leadership and Organizational Development from NYU School of Professional Studies (2006-2007). In 2017, they obtained a Certificate in Human Resources Director and a Certificate in Human Resources Business Partner from Pace University. Gillian further enhanced their skills with a Certificate in Strategic Human Resources Business Partner from the Human Capital Institute in 2018. In 2020-2021, they completed a Certificate in Executive Coaching in Human Capital Management from NYU School of Professional Studies. Gillian also has additional certifications including a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education (obtained in 2021), and certifications as a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) from SHRM (obtained in 2015) and as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR®) from HR Certification Institute - HRCI (obtained in 2014).
