Tamika Cowans has extensive work experience in research, specifically in the education sector. Tamika began their research career as a Research Assistant at the American Institutes for Research in July 2007, where they worked until April 2009. Tamika then advanced to the role of Research Associate from April 2009 to March 2014. After that, they served as a Researcher from April 2014 to April 2021. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Researcher at the same organization, a role they assumed in April 2021.

Prior to their work at the American Institutes for Research, Tamika worked as an Office Assistant at the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute from March 2005 to June 2007.

Tamika Cowans has a diverse education history. Tamika earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology and Family Studies from the University of Maryland, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Following this, they pursued further education at The George Washington University, where they obtained a Master's degree in Public Policy with a specialization in Health Policy. Tamika attended The George Washington University from 2011 to 2014.

Before their higher education, Tamika Cowans completed their high school education at Hackensack High School. Tamika was enrolled in the school's Honors Program and successfully obtained their high school diploma in 2003.

In addition to their formal education, Tamika Cowans also holds a certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute. Tamika acquired this certification in November 2020.
