John Piehl is an experienced First Assistant Engineer with a strong background in marine engineering and operations. Currently serving at Crowley since December 2021, responsibilities include supervising junior engineers and managing engine room operations aboard the USNS 2nd Lt John P. Bobo. John is a full book member of the American Maritime Officers Union and holds the USCG First Assistant Engineer Unlimited HP Motors and STCW Second Engineer Officer licenses. Previous roles include Second Assistant Engineer positions at Ocean Ships Holdings Inc. and Maersk Line, Limited, where John oversaw main propulsion machinery and fuel operations. John has also gained valuable leadership experience as a Damage Control Officer and Squadron Leader at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, contributing significantly to engineering cadet training and maintenance efforts during maritime education. John holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
