Elie Akl is a distinguished academic and medical professional currently serving at the American University of Beirut since August 2012 in several prominent roles, including Vice Provost for Research, Founding Head of the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics, and Professor of Medicine. Additionally, Elie Akl is the Founding Director of the AUB GRADE center and the Founding Co-director of the Center for Systematic Reviews of Health Policy and Systems Research (SPARK). Other significant positions held include Associate Dean for Clinical Research, Director of the Clinical Research Institute, and Associate Director of the Residency Training Program of the Department of Internal Medicine. Prior to this, Elie Akl was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University at Buffalo from April 2010 to July 2012. Elie Akl earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Saint Joseph University of Beirut between 1992 and 1999.
