The Research and Scientific Team at Ames Laboratory focuses on pioneering fundamental and applied research in chemical and biological sciences. They develop new catalysts, convert plants to biofuels, study solvent effects on chemical reactions, and analyze molecular diffusion. The team also creates advanced instruments for observing processes at microscopic and rapid scales and excels in mass spectrometric imaging, solid-state NMR, Raman spectroscopy, and single particle analysis. Their innovative work is primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Basic Energy Sciences.
