About this role:

At Amira Learning, we're in search of an experienced DevOps Engineer to lead our infrastructure projects, boosting our Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes, and fortifying our production monitoring, scaling, and security systems. Your meticulous attention to detail, outstanding problem-solving skills, and profound AWS networking knowledge will be crucial in this role. This position is for those who excel as individual contributors and thrive in managing both development and operational tasks.

Who You Are:

  • Agile Collaboration: Engage in all scrum ceremonies (planning, standups, exits, retrospectives) and work directly with the development team.
  • Infrastructure Optimization: Design and implement build, deployment, and configuration management. Develop and maintain infrastructure and application development.
  • Automation and Efficiency: Build and test tools for infrastructure provisioning. Handle code deployments across all environments and optimize CI/CD tools.
  • Cost Management and AWS Networking Expertise: Utilize your deep understanding of AWS networking and cost-effective strategies to enhance cloud infrastructure efficiency and security.
  • Monitoring and Improvement: Monitor key metrics and devise strategies for improvement. Ensure adherence to cloud security best practices.
  • Educational Leadership: Offer technical guidance, educate team members on development and operations, and advocate for best practices within the company.

What You’ll Do:

  • Agile Advocate: A firm believer in the agile principle of working software over comprehensive documentation.
  • Independent and Adaptable: Comfortable working independently with minimal direction and adept at switching tasks to optimize team velocity.
  • Start-Up Enthusiast: Eager to be part of a Silicon Valley start-up, committed to the demanding hours this entails, and experienced in a start-up environment.
  • Technical Expertise: At least 2 years of experience in development and operations (or related IT field) using AWS. Proficient with Linux infrastructures, database SQL (MS SQL), CI/CD tools, and scripting languages like Bash, JavaScript and Python.
  • Industry Awareness: Stays updated on industry trends, able to articulate these trends confidently.
  • Strong Communicator: Excellent interpersonal skills and capable of communicating effectively with all levels of management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, and/or relevant experience
  • Ability to operate in a highly efficient manner by multitasking in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and detail-oriented thinking skills.
  • Proven track record of meeting/exceeding goals and targets.
  • Great interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working across remote teams.

Amira’s Culture

  • Flexibility – We encourage and support you to live and work where you desire. Amira works as a truly distributed team. We worked remotely before COVID and we’ll be working remotely after the pandemic is long gone. Our office is Slack. Our coffee room is Zoom. Our team works hard but we work when we want, where we want.

  • Collaboration – We work together closely, using collaborative tools and periodic face to face get togethers. We believe great software is like movie-making. Lots of talented people with very different skills have to band together to build a great experience.

  • Lean & Agile -- We believe in ownership and continuous feedback. Yes, we employ Scrum ceremonies. But, what we’re really after is using data and learning to be better and to do better for our teachers, students, and players.

  • Mission-Driven – What’s important to us is helping kids. We’re about tangible, measured impact.

Amira Learning is proud to celebrate diversity and is committed to building an inclusive workplace regardless of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factors.

At Amira, we believe every child deserves the chance to become a reader. Join us to make that happen.
