Denise Abbel is currently a PhD candidate at Leiden University Medical Center, focusing on antithrombotic therapy in older cancer patients with limited life expectancy. In addition to this role, Denise acts as a Student Reviewer in Geriatrics for the Amsterdam Medical Student journal, contributing quarterly articles under the supervision of geriatrician Eveline Poelgeest. Denise's previous experience includes serving as an advisory board member at IFMSA-VU, caregiving for elderly dementia patients at PGB, and completing a research internship at NTNU Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, where the potential of diet in dementia prevention was explored. Involvement in various initiatives related to social equity, health, and caregiving is evident through roles in projects like Het Buddyproject, and leadership positions within IFMSA-VU. Denise holds multiple degrees, including a Master’s in Vitality and Ageing from Leiden University and a Master’s in Health Care Management from Erasmus University Rotterdam, along with a Bachelor’s in Medicine from VUmc School of Medical Sciences.
