Dr. Jacek Hawiger is a distinguished Professor of Medicine, Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Louise B. McGavock Chair in Medicine, Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, and a Research Health Scientist at the VA hospital in Nashville. Dr. Hawiger has more than 40 years of experience in the field of immunology, devoting most of his career to research on the complement cascade, inflammation, innate immunity, biodefense, and intracellular delivery of proteins and peptides. Dr. Hawiger is the inventor of the cell-penetrating peptide technology, licensed from Vanderbilt to Amytrx, and the scientific co-founder of Amytrx Therapeutics. Previously, Dr. Hawiger held various faculty and clinical appointments in medicine at leading universities, including as Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt, Professor of Medicine at Boston University, and several professorships in Medicine at Harvard University. Dr. Hawiger received his medical degree from Copernicus School of Medicine in Cracow, Poland, and his Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from the National Institute of Public Health in Warsaw, Poland.
