Matthew Cummings has a diverse work experience in the fields of biotechnology, antimicrobial resistance, and scientific communication. Matthew currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of CC Bio and also holds the position of Co-Founder and Scientific Advisor at Ancilia. In 2018, Matthew worked at Deep Science Ventures as an Opportunity Discovery and Analyst, where they focused on identifying opportunities and creating ventures in the infectious disease space, specifically targeting antimicrobial resistance pathogens. Prior to this, they worked as a Business Development Associate at Innovation Forum. Matthew's academic background includes roles as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology at The University of Manchester, and as a Doctoral Researcher in Chemistry, where they focused on the discovery of novel antimicrobial small molecules. Additionally, they participated in the John Innes/Rudjer Bošković Summer School in Applied Molecular Microbiology, which explored the role of small molecules in microbial communities. At the British Heart Foundation, Matthew worked in the Science Communication Office, where they communicated research to both technical and lay audiences through various mediums.

Matthew Cummings attended Brockenhurst College from 2007 to 2009, where they studied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Product Design. Matthew then went on to Cardiff University from 2009 to 2012, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Microbiology. From 2013 to 2017, Matthew pursued a BBSRC Doctoral training partnership PhD in Chemistry with a focus on Synthetic Biology at The University of Manchester. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications in science communication, business acceleration, and biotechnology at institutions such as BioHub at Alderley Park, BBSRC, British Science Association, and Imperial College London.
