Iriana Belongie

Iriana Belongie, MD, was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. She obtained the equivalent of a Bachelor of Science from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana and her Medical Diploma from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. She graduated at the top of her class and obtained several scholarships and academic distinctions including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Award for Academic Excellence and Achievement.

Dr. Belongie continued her post-doctoral education by completing an internship in Internal Medicine at Tulane School of Medicine and her residency in Dermatology and fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine.

During these years she had the opportunity to coauthor review articles about serious skin diseases including Malignant Melanoma and Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma. She enjoyed teaching medical students and residents and was awarded the Resident Teacher of the Year Award by the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at USF for two consecutive years. She served as a Chief Resident for Clinical Conferences and helped coordinate the Florida West Coast Society of Dermatology meetings during her last year of residency.

Dr. Belongie initially practiced general dermatology in Memphis, Tennessee and joined Academic Alliance in Dermatology in October 2008. She enjoys clinical practice and has a special interest in the dermatological manifestation of systemic disease, photodermatosis and genetic skin disorders.

Currently practicing primarily Dermatopathology, she uses her education and training in Dermatology and Dermatopathology to better serve her patients and correlate clinical and pathology findings to help diagnose uncommon or atypical inflammatory skin disorders.

Dr. Belongie is Board Certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
