Reporting to the Sr Director of Process Development, the Sr. Tissue Engineer will lead the design, development, and testing of tissue-based products and processes, focusing on quality, safety, and efficacy.  This key, collaborative role will develop and implement protocols for testing tissue products, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to identify areas for improvement in tissue engineering.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to ensure successful product development and commercialization.

  • Analyze data from experiments and studies to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for process improvement.

  • Contribute to the creation of technical documentation, including research papers, patents, and regulatory submissions.

  • Perform tissue performance testing including biomechanical and biocompatibility assessments, to evaluate tissue functionality and safety.

  • Mentor and guide manufacturing engineers and technicians, providing technical expertise and support in tissue engineering projects.

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in biomedical engineering and tissue-related fields.

  • Evaluate novel tissue modification techniques and oversee the implementation of these processes in bench testing and preclinical models.

Required Degree and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field.  Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in biomedical engineering, with a focus on tissue engineering.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of biological processes, tissue handling, biomaterials, and cell culture.  Bovine tissue experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in tissue processing techniques such as decellularization, sterilization, preservation, with a strong understanding of tissue biomechanics and physiology.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and developing innovative solutions.

  • Experience with regulatory requirements and compliance in the biomedical industry (e.g., FDA, ISO).

  • Proven track record of successful project management, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to lead projects and drive results.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
