Quality Control Inspector (Welding and Fabrication)

Who we are

A&P Falmouth is one of the largest ship-repair facilities in the UK, we provide a complete range of marine repair services thanks to our on-site engineering, electrical, paint and fabrication workshops.

A centre of excellence for Ministry of Defence vessels, ferries, mobilisation and demobilisation works, jack-ups, pontoons and tankers, A&P Falmouth is also a busy working port, handling over 100,000 T of product annually.

What you will do

As a Quality Control Inspector and part of the Quality Team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the company meets and complies with all quality control aspects of welding and fabrication in accordance with customer and quality standards. This will involve:

  • Carrying our inspections, patrolling and verification of work being carried out by A&P and our contractors. Verification of the application of the yard’s Integrated Management System, yard facilities and work being carried out.
  • Supporting with the maintenance of the Company Welding and Fabrication Quality Management System procedures, manuals and associated booklets/forms
  • Working closely with the Fabrication Department Manager, Project / Ship Managers and site-based contractors
  • Developing processes and procedures to ensure the quality control of all welding and fabrication operations within the facility
  • Carrying out non-destructive testing (magnetic particle and liquid penetrant)
  • Assisting with the investigation and rectification of non-conformances, customer complaints and the defining of preventative actions

What we are looking for

  • You will ideally be a CSWIP Welding Inspector or (equivalent) with experience of fabrication inspection
  • Ideally, you’ll hold PCN certification in non-destructive testing (MPI, LPI), though training can be provided if needed
  • You’ll need strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in documentation
  • You’ll have excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to quality issues
  • You’ll be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across cross-function teams
