Director Of Solar Design at Apex Clean Energy

George Szabo has a diverse work experience in renewable energy, specifically in solar design and engineering. George is currently working at Apex Clean Energy as the Director of Solar Design, where they are responsible for project management leadership and serves as a technical board member for major equipment, energy modeling, and design strategy. George also works on design and optimization analytics for wind, solar, and storage projects. Prior to this, George worked as a Senior Solar Energy Analyst at Apex Clean Energy, where they were the senior project design lead and energy modeling expert for utility-scale and distributed energy solar projects.

Before joining Apex Clean Energy, George worked at Wood as a Solar and Storage Engineer EIT, PMP. In this role, they developed and managed engineering bid response deliverables for solar and energy storage battery projects, including design concept, scope, technology selection, layout, and procurement plan. George also provided additional engineering services, such as strategic design of tools and processes for expedited calculations.

George also has experience working at Cypress Creek Renewables as a Project Engineer, EIT PMP, where they assessed feasibility and ordinance adherence for renewable energy projects. George developed site layouts and sized electrical aggregation equipment for engineering plan sets. Prior to this, they worked at Blue Oak Energy as a Project Engineer, EIT PMP, where they provided electrical engineering services for commercial and utility-scale PV systems, including module layout, inverter configuration, conductor sizing, and comprehensive bill of materials.

Earlier in their career, George worked as an Optical Lab Technician at Six Rivers Optical, managing the production cycle of a lens manufacturing lab. George also has experience as an Assistance Material Science Engineer and Administrative Assistant at SHN Consulting Engineers & Geologists, Inc.

Throughout their career, George has demonstrated expertise in project management, energy modeling, design strategy, and technical due diligence. George is a PMP and EIT certified, as well as a NABCEP Associate.

George Szabo, PMP, EIT, NABCEP Associate, received their education from Humboldt State University. From 2007 to 2014, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Environmental Resource Engineering and a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Environmental Engineering Technology/Environmental Technology. In addition to their degrees, George has also acquired several certifications. George became a Project Management Professional in January 2017 and an Engineer In Training in 2014. Furthermore, they obtained certifications in Lean Management, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (ICGB) Training, and NABCEP Associate Photovoltaic in later years. The institutions from which they obtained certifications include Simplilearn, the Project Management Institute, and the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
