R. Emmett Montgomery has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and responsibilities. R. Emmett started as a Volunteer Voter Communications Specialist for the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign in 2007. Subsequently, they worked as a Museum Interpreter at Mud Island River Park/Mississippi River Museum in 2010 and volunteered as a Volunteer Leader in the Comment Line Department at the Office of Presidential Correspondence in 2011. Following this, they served as an Intern at Business Forward in 2012 and as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Computer Science Department at Georgetown University in 2013, where they specialized in distributed backup servers using Attribute-Based Encryption. Moving into the tech industry, they joined PwC in 2014, where they took on roles such as Advisory Technology Associate, Advisory Technology Experienced Associate, and Advisory Technology Senior Associate, working on projects related to DevOps, Data Warehousing, and Business Intelligence. In 2017, they transitioned to Digital Age Experts - An Applied Insight Company as a Solutions Architect, working on custom budget applications within the AWS C2S Region. In 2020, they continued their career at Applied Insight, LLC, leading teams as the Director of Engineering for SHIFT, an emulation and testing platform for Cloud Service Providers.

R. Emmett Montgomery earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Russian from Georgetown University from 2010 to 2014. In 2012, they also studied Russian Studies at St. Petersburg State University for a year. Additionally, they obtained certifications from Amazon Web Services, including AWS Certified Developer - Associate in November 2019 and AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate in October 2017.
