Lei Tian has an extensive work experience in the engineering field. Currently, they work at Applied Intuition since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Waymo from 2020 to 2023 as a Systems Engineer, Motion Control. From 2015 to 2020, Lei Tian has worked at Karma Automotive LLC, where they held multiple roles including Manager, powertrain supervisory controls and Hybrid Control Engineer. Their responsibilities included managing a team of engineers, developing hybrid control systems, and integrating powertrain controls for production programs. Before working at Karma Automotive, Lei Tian worked at Polaris Industries as a Development Engineer from 2013 to 2015, focusing on engine calibration and vehicle testing. They also have experience as a Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, Lei Tian worked as an R&D Engineer at Walbro Engine Management in 2010, where they conducted testing and marketing research for new carburetor and fuel injection technologies. They also have early career experience as an Assistant Analyst at the China Association for Social and Economic Analysis and Research, as well as an intern on the production line at China FAW-Volkswagen Corporation in 2006.
Lei Tian earned a Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2008. From 2008 to 2010, they pursued their Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Lei Tian then continued their education at the University of Minnesota and completed their Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2013. In addition to their degrees, they obtained a certification as a NI Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) from the National Instrument in March 2012.
