Phil Saunderson is a Principal Engineer at Cyclife Aquila Nuclear, leading the technical design for remote-operations equipment essential for the decommissioning of Trawsfynydd Reactors and developing in-glovebox equipment for nuclear material reprocessing. Previously, as a Mechatronics Design Engineer at Veolia Nuclear Solutions, Phil led a collaborative Innovate UK R&D project integrating Machine Learning with remote handling technologies for autonomous nuclear waste sorting and headed a team for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant investigation. Phil’s earlier experience includes work at STFC as a Mechatronics/Motion Control Design Engineer, focusing on the design and installation of mechatronic systems for scientific instruments at the ISIS Neutron Spallation Source. Phil holds a Master of Science in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from the University of Strathclyde and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow.
