Joe Alcorn

Joe Alcorn has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Joe has worked as a Field Scientist at Arable since 2023. Previously, from 2021 to 2023, they were the Lead R&D Grower at Sensei Ag, where they played a crucial role in experimental design and research reporting, focusing on product development. Before that, from 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant/Greenhouse Manager at the University of Arizona, where they managed the daily operations of two research greenhouses and designed and operated a closed-loop recirculating drip system. In 2016 to 2018, Joe worked as a Park Ranger at the National Park Service, primarily focusing on emergency services, visitor and resource protection, and backcountry monitoring. From 2014 to 2015, they served as a Wilderness Guide at St. Elias Alpine Guides, leading various adventure tours. Prior to that, from 2001 to 2014, they were self-employed as the Director of Cultivation, gained expertise in cultivation in various settings and different growing media. Additionally, from 2010 to 2011, they worked as a Technical Support Specialist at FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company, providing technical product information to end-users and retailers. Finally, from 2008 to 2010, Joe worked as a General Manager at Bayside Garden Supply, overseeing all operations of a retail hydroponic supply store.

Joe Alcorn earned a Master's degree in Controlled Environment Agriculture/Biosystems Engineering from the University of Arizona, where they studied from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Plant Sciences from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, attending from 2001 to 2005. In addition to their formal education, Joe Alcorn has obtained several certifications, including Search and Rescue Technician 3 (SRT3) from the National Park Service in May 2016, Medical Person In Charge (MPIC) from Remote Medical International in March 2015, Wilderness EMT from NOLS Wilderness Medicine in April 2015, Certified Interpretive Guide from the National Association for Interpretation in January 2015, Emergency Medical Technician - Basic from Remote Medical International in March 2015, and Remote Emergency Medical Technician from Remote Medical International in March 2015.
