Paul Yu-Yang

Paul Yu-Yang's work experience begins in 2005 as a Graduate Student Researcher at the Center for Biophotonics, Science and Technology, UC Davis. Paul performed single molecule analysis using various techniques and focused on molecular distances of telomeric DNA.

In 2009, they became a Graduate Student Intern at Genentech, where they learned modern mammalian cell culture techniques and worked on bioreactors for FDA approved biopharmaceuticals.

From 2010 to 2012, Paul worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Davis - Department of Biomedical Engineering, specializing in computational biology/immunology. Paul developed a simulation to predict immune cell response to antigen exposure and published research on BCR-Lipid Rafts.

From 2012 to 2014, they worked at OSIsoft as a Center of Excellence Engineer and later as a Program Manager, Executive Briefing Center. Paul developed messaging for engagements with C-level officers and created executive-level stories and frameworks.

Paul joined BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in 2015 as an Engineer 2, where they created biomanufacturing process models and evaluated new equipment and processes.

In 2019, they became a Staff Fermentation Engineer at Zymergen, and in 2020, they joined Aralez Bio as the Fermentation Engineering Lead, where they developed fermentation efforts and capabilities for sustainable products. Paul later became the Director of Fermentation before becoming the Senior Director, Tech Ops in 2023.

Throughout their work experience, Paul has demonstrated strong technical skills and a focus on biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, with expertise in fermentation, process development, and quality management.

Paul Yu-Yang received their education in several prestigious institutions. Paul obtained a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, where they studied from 2004 to 2012. Prior to that, they completed an MBA with a focus on entrepreneurship and technology management at the same university from 2002 to 2004. Paul also holds an MA in Education from Stanford University and a BS in Bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, they have obtained certification as a Microsoft Certified Professional in Database Admin Fundamentals from Microsoft.
