Thomas Sugar

Thomas Sugar currently serves as Associate Dean at Barrett, The Honors College and has held the position of Professor at Arizona State University since 1999, where teaching focuses on design, kinematics, robotics, mechanical systems, and mechatronics. As the Director of the Human Machine Integration Laboratory, established in 1999, Thomas has contributed significantly to the field of wearable robotics. In addition, Thomas is a Co-Founder and Director of the Wearable Robotics Association, which hosts the WearRAcon conference, a key event in the industry. Previously, Thomas held the role of Director of Technology at SpringActive, Inc., where development projects included powered prosthetic ankles and exoskeletons, and worked as a Project Engineer at W. L. Gore & Associates from 1992 to 1996. Educational achievements include a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, alongside Bachelor’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Management from the same institution and The Wharton School.
