Nicholas Franano has extensive experience in the medical device industry. From 2014 to 2020, they served as Chief Medical and Scientific Officer at Artio Medical, Inc., where they led a diverse team in developing innovative medical devices to treat unmet medical needs. In June 2020, they helped the Artio Medical team acquire Flow Forward Medical, expanding their peripheral vascular portfolio. From 2012 to 2014, they served on the Entrepreneurship Council at the Skandaleris Center for Entrepreneurship at Washington University, St. Louis. In 2010, they were a Board Member of the Biological Sciences Advisory Board at the University of Kansas. From 2014 to 2020, they were President and Chief Executive Officer at Flow Forward Medical, Inc., leading a team to develop the Arteriovenous Fistula Eligibility (AFE) System. From 2011 to 2012, they were a Board Member of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. In 2001, they founded Proteon Therapeutics, Inc., where they served as President and CEO until 2009. In 2009, they founded Novita Therapeutics, LLC and served as President and CEO until 2014. In 2010, they were an Advisory Board Member of the University of Missouri Enterprise Investment Program. From 2007 to 2009, they were a Board Member of the Missouri Technology Corporation. From 2001 to 2009, they were President and CEO of Proteon Therapeutics, Inc.

Nicholas Franano completed a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1999 to 2000. Prior to that, they completed a Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1995 to 1999. From 1991 to 1994, they attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where they obtained an M.D. in Medicine and an M.A. in Biomedical Research. Finally, they completed their undergraduate degree in Biology at The University of Kansas from 1985 to 1989.
