Irmak Turan

Climate And Sustainability Leader at Arup

Irmak Turan, Ph.D., serves as the Climate and Sustainability Leader at Arup since June 2025 and is currently a Commissioner-at-Large for the City of Boston Air Pollution Control Commission overseeing BERDO 2.0 regulations. Previously, Irmak was Vice President of Sustainability & Resilience at Thornton Tomasetti and an Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Additional academic roles include Design Critic at Northeastern University and Instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Irmak's early career includes teaching positions at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where recognition was received on the Georgia Tech Excellence in Teaching Honor Roll. Irmak holds a Ph.D. in Building Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, along with a Master of Science in Architecture Studies from MIT and dual degrees in Civil Engineering and Architecture from Columbia University.
