Derek Swenningsen

Derek Swenningsen is a seasoned professional in cyber security with extensive experience in both academic and practical settings. Currently serving as a Senior Security Architect at Ascent Solutions since November 2019, Derek also contributes to the field as an Adjunct Professor of Cyber Security Operations at the University of San Diego. Prior roles include leadership positions in the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity, where responsibilities encompassed adversarial cyber testing and engineering. Derek earned a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School, further specializing in cyber security, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Additionally, Derek has a military background as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps, with diverse roles including F/A-18 Pilot and various instructional positions.
