Richard Paterson

Richard Paterson has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Richard started their career as an Estate Worker and Chargehand at Hertfordshire County Council in 1985, followed by a promotion to Foreman in their Rural Action Project. In 1987, they joined BTCV as a Voluntary Field Officer and a Voluntary Leader of working holidays, where they organized and supervised conservation projects.

In 1989, Richard joined the University of Exeter as an Information Compiler in the Economics Department. Richard then became a Deputy Manager at the Editorial Offices of the Macmillan Stock Exchange Yearbook and other publications, where they managed the office IT systems and supervised staff. Richard also worked as a Computing Development Officer for the Regional Business Programme.

In 1999, Richard started working as a Freelance Copy-Editor for Key Note, before returning to the University of Exeter as a Computing Development Officer for the English Language Centre in 2001. Later, they became a Desktop Support Consultant.

Richard also had entrepreneurial experience, as they co-owned Otters Childcare and was responsible for its administration and financial management.

From 2009 to 2018, Richard worked at the University of Exeter in various finance-related roles, including Accounts Payable Manager and Accounts Payable Workstream Lead, Future Finance Project. Their responsibilities included managing teams, overseeing purchase ledger management, invoice processing, and expense claims. Richard successfully implemented new systems and managed the takeover of additional operational processes.

In 2019, Richard joined Ashfords LLP as a Purchase Ledger Manager, where they led a team and ensured efficient and accurate processing of supplier invoices and expense claims. Richard also successfully implemented a web-based expense claim and approval system.

Throughout their career, Richard has demonstrated strong leadership skills, project management expertise, and a focus on customer service and process improvement.

Richard Paterson attended UCL from 1981 to 1984, where they obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Physics & Astronomy. Richard then attended Duchy College in Cornwall from 2007 to 2009, earning an FdSc degree in Rural Environmental Management. Finally, they pursued further education at AAT from 2010 to 2012, obtaining an AAT degree.
