Michael Chinen

Michael Chinen's work experience includes a role as a Deep Learning Speech Researcher at AssemblyAI, starting in April 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a General Partner at Healthspan Capital starting in April 2021. From July 2015 to April 2023, they worked as a Software Engineer at Google. Before that, they worked as a Software Engineer at Apportable from August 2013 to June 2015, and at Roughsoft LLC from January 2010 to June 2013. Michael also has experience as a Developer Team Member at Audacity Team from June 2008 to January 2013, and as a Software Engineer at Dolby Laboratories from June 2009 to August 2009. Michael Chinen completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Washington from 2000 to 2005. Michael then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Digital Musics at Dartmouth College from 2007 to 2009. Following this, they obtained a Fulbright Scholar award and studied at Technische Universität Berlin from 2009 to 2011, focusing on the Sonification of Programs. At some point, Michael Chinen attended Tokyo Denki University, although the years of enrollment and completion of their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Audio Analysis/Synthesis and Quality Estimation are unknown.
