Michelle Williams

Director, U.s. Media Groups at The Associated Press

Michelle Williams has an extensive work experience in the media industry. Michelle started their career in 1989 as a Reporter, Correspondent, Editor, and Assistant Chief at The Associated Press, working in various cities such as Milwaukee, Chattanooga, Nashville, San Diego, and Dallas. During this time, they covered a range of beats, including breaking news, courts and crime, TVA, immigration, and politics. From 2007 to 2010, Michelle served as the Bureau Chief for Arizona and New Mexico.

In 2010, they joined the Associated Press, where they held several roles. Michelle started as the South Atlantic Chief of Bureau from April 2010 to September 2014. Later, they became the South Regional Director, responsible for business development and market relations in a Southern territory comprising 13 states. In this role, Michelle managed sales teams and acted as a liaison to News departments to ensure AP services and content met market and customer needs. From September 2014 onwards, they became the Director of U.S. Media Groups, overseeing AP’s client relationships with major media organizations in the U.S., including Gannett, Hearst, The Washington Post, Gray Television, and Lee Enterprises.

Michelle Williams completed a Bachelor's degree in Journalism at Belmont University. Michelle also obtained a Master Gardener certification from the University of Tennessee Department of Plant Sciences. Additionally, Michelle attended Harvard Extension School for a period of time. Michelle also has some association with the Poynter Institute, although the specifics are unknown.
