Sriram Gopal has a long and varied work experience. Sriram began their career in 1989 as a drummer for The Fourth Stream and Others. In 2000, they became a Staff Scientist for the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research. In 2006, they joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Staff Attorney for the Office of Administrative Law Judges. In 2007, they began freelancing as a writer for DCist, Washingtonian and other publications. In 2008, they became an organizer for Subcontinental Drift, a collective of South Asian artists and organizers. In 2009, they worked as a Senior Staff for Noblis and as an Independent Contractor for the Heinz Center for Economics and the Environment. Finally, in 2011, they joined the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) as a Policy Analyst. In 2018, they were named Director of Technology & Environmental Policy and staff lead for the association's connectivity initiative. Sriram remains the policy lead for environmental issues, ranging from sustainability to regulatory efforts at the federal and state levels.
Sriram Gopal began their educational journey at the University of Maryland, where they obtained a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and French in 1998. Sriram then continued their studies at the same university, receiving an M.S. in Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Science in 2000. In 2003, they enrolled in the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and obtained a J.D. in Environmental Law in 2006. In December 2006, they were admitted to the Maryland Bar by the Maryland Court of Appeals.
