Alicia Justice

Senior Director, Programmatic Health Equity Initiatives & Strategy at ASTHO

Alicia Justice, MPH has extensive experience in the public health field. Alicia began their career as a Tobacco Use Prevention Outreach Coordinator at the Oklahoma City County Health Department from 2009 to 2011. Alicia then moved on to the Geographic Health Equity Alliance, where they worked as the Manager of Tobacco Prevention Initiatives/Grant Program and Outreach Manager from 2011 to 2015. In 2015, Alicia joined the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) as the Director of Chronic Disease Prevention. In this role, they were responsible for leadership, policy analysis, and programmatic implementation related to chronic disease prevention initiatives. Alicia also administered federally-funded cooperative agreements that supported ASTHO's work in tobacco, nutrition, physical activity, and cross-cutting issues. Alicia's work at ASTHO involved identifying opportunities to enhance the integration of chronic disease through multi-level collaborations with national experts, state and territorial health officials, and their leadership teams. In 2021, Alicia founded Root Causes Consulting, LLC, a boutique, Black woman-owned firm specializing in strategic planning, facilitation, curriculum development, evaluation, data analysis, and implementation in order to improve health outcomes. As the Founder & Principal Consultant, their mission is to ignite strategically disruptive action to challenge and dismantle systematically oppressive ideologies and practices in workplaces. Alicia envisions all public health agencies and their leadership operating from business practices that ensure the health and optimal treatment of employees to best serve the community. Alicia is currently the Senior Director of Programmatic Health Equity Initiatives & Strategy at ASTHO, contributing to the organization's mission and strategic goals.

Alicia Justice holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism & Mass Communication from the University of Oklahoma, which was obtained in 2006. In 2009, they completed their Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Administration & Policy at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. In 2012, they furthered their education with a Postgraduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Marymount University. Alicia is currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree in Health Equity & Social Justice at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, expected to be completed in 2024. In May 2023, they obtained a certification in Human Subjects Research from the CITI Program.
