Matt M. Murphy

Matt Murphy is a Co-Founder of Astra and serves on the firm’s Investment Committee. Mr. Murphy has over 20 years of strategic, operational and investment experience in the communications sector. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in all aspects of corporate finance, strategic planning, operational execution and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to co-founding Astra, Mr. Murphy served as President of Grande Communications where he successfully led the transformation of the company’s business and turned it into one of the fastest growing Multiple System Operators (MSO) in the country. From 2002 to 2009, Mr. Murphy served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and was part of the founding management team of Atlantic Broadband. From 1998 to 2002, he served in strategic management and investment professional roles with Aprisma Management Technologies (2001 to 2002), Great Hill Partners (1999 to 2001) and Media Communications Partners (1997 to 1999). Mr. Murphy began his career at Merrill Lynch as an investment banking analyst in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) group from 1995 to 1997. His board experience includes Horizon Telecom, Dame Broadcasting, and Bloomington Broadcasting. Mr. Murphy is a member of the Young President Organization, served on the Austin Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, and was a Presidential Intern in 1994 under the Clinton administration. Mr. Murphy received a BA in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.
