Senior Scientist Chemistry at AstraZeneca

Alla Pryyma is a Senior Scientist in Chemistry at AstraZeneca since April 2022. Previously, Alla served as a Doctoral Researcher at The University of British Columbia from January 2014 to January 2022, where significant contributions included the development of a novel tryptophan-cysteine peptide stapling method, leading to the total synthesis of the peptide toxin α-Amanitin, recognized as C&EN molecule of the year in 2018. Alla also designed effective diastereoselective sulfoxidation strategies that addressed critical synthetic challenges in amatoxin synthesis. In an educational capacity, Alla held multiple teaching roles, including Senior Teaching Assistant and Mentor for upper-level laboratory teaching assistants, and facilitated numerous workshops to enhance TA training. Prior research experience includes a position as a Research Assistant at The University of Winnipeg, focusing on natural products chemistry and organometallic compounds. Alla earned a Bachelor of Science in Organic Chemistry from the University of Winnipeg, graduating in 2014.
