Laurence Yeung

Laurence Yeung's work experience includes serving as the Director of Chemistry at Atomo Coffee since October 2022. Prior to that, they held various roles at Rice University, starting as an Assistant Professor in January 2015 and eventually becoming a Maurice Ewing Career Development Associate Professor in Earth Systems Science in July 2021. During their time at Rice University, they managed a research group, taught undergraduate and graduate students, and secured over $2 million in research funding.

Before joining Rice University, Laurence worked as an Assistant Researcher and an NSF Earth Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA from March 2013 to December 2014. Laurence also served as a Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences from January 2014 to April 2014.

Prior to their time at UCLA and the National Academy of Sciences, Laurence worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Southern California, where they focused on using isotopic techniques to study atmosphere-ocean gas exchange and photosynthesis in the tropical oceans.

Laurence's earliest work experience includes serving as a Graduate Research Assistant at the California Institute of Technology, where they conducted experiments and made discoveries in kinetic isotope effects and gas-phase photochemical systems. Laurence also worked as a Teaching Assistant at the same institution.

Before pursuing their graduate studies, Laurence worked at Oberlin College as a Senior Resident Assistant, where they trained and led a team of resident assistants while also being responsible for resident education and discipline. Laurence also worked as a Research Assistant at Oberlin College, focusing on the atmospheric oxidation rates of volatile organic compounds.

Furthermore, Laurence gained research experience as a Summer Undergraduate Research Student at the University of Paris VI (UPMC/Jussieu), where they studied drug delivery applications using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Laurence Yeung began their education at Sidwell Friends School from 1996 to 2000, but did not obtain a degree or specialize in any specific field of study during this time. Laurence then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Oberlin College from 2000 to 2004, which they completed with the highest honors. Their academic journey continued at Caltech, where they completed their Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and Stable Isotope Geochemistry from 2004 to 2010.
