Steve McCoombe

Manager Vessel Safety Unit at Australian Maritime Safety Authority

Steve McCoombe has a diverse work experience in the maritime industry. Steve started their career as a Naval Architect at North Wind Yachts in Spain, where they focused on interior joinery, GRP laminate engineering, and rigging design. Steve then worked at Marine Safety Victoria as a Naval Architect and Surveyor. After that, they joined NSW Maritime as a Naval Architect and Ship Surveyor, where they performed initial and periodic surveys of commercial vessels and approved plans to structural standards. Steve later joined Roads and Maritime Services NSW as a Team Leader in the Initial Survey section, overseeing a team of Naval Architects and ship engineers. Currently, they are the Head of Technical at the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, where they lead technical operations.

Steve McCoombe attended Inverell High School from 1984 to 1990. Steve then pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Naval Architecture from UNSW, graduating in 1996. In 2007, they completed a Diploma of Small Craft Surveying from Lloyds Maritime Academy. Finally, in 2013, they obtained a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment from the Competency Training Institute of Australia.
