Annemieke Tuinstra

Senior Economist - Chief Economist Team at The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets

Annemieke Tuinstra has a strong background in economics and competition enforcement. Annemieke has worked in various roles and organizations throughout their career. Annemieke started in 2000 with an internship at Policy Research Corporation. Annemieke then worked as a university teacher at Maastricht University from 2001 to 2003. Annemieke gained research experience as a researcher at the New Zealand Institute for the Study of Competition and Regulation from 2003 to 2004. Annemieke briefly worked as a competition and regulatory advisor at Kensington Swan in 2004 before joining the Netherlands Competition Authority as a case handler for merger control from 2004 to 2006. Annemieke then moved to the UK Competition Commission as an economic advisor from 2006 to 2009. Annemieke returned to the Netherlands and worked at the Netherlands Competition Authority as a senior economist in the competition expert team from 2009 to 2013. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Economist in the Chief Economist team at ACM - Autoriteit Consument & Markt, where they conduct research on the effects of strategic complexity by firms on consumer behavior and provides insights for policy and regulation.

Annemieke Tuinstra has a diverse educational background. Annemieke started their education at Maastricht University from 1996 to 2001, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Economics. In 2005, they attended The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for a Summer School program in Industrial Organisation.

Annemieke went on to pursue further education in 2013, completing the ACM Academie Kopprogramma at the Autoriteit Consument en Markt. The program provided their with specialized knowledge in a field that is not specified. Annemieke also expanded their knowledge in 2014 by attending the Summer School in Experimental Economics at the University of Amsterdam.

In addition to their academic pursuits, Annemieke has also developed their skills in photography. From 2014 to 2016, they attended the Fotovakschool Amsterdam, where they earned a Diploma in Vakfotografie.

Currently, Annemieke is undertaking their doctoral studies as an external PhD candidate at Tilburg University, focusing on the field of Behavioural Industrial Organisation.
