Field Software Engineer

About Avantium RDS: Our R&D Solutions business unit

Avantium RDS excels in accelerating R&D in chemistry through advanced R&D equipment and research services. Our work supports industries transitioning towards sustainable practices, with a growing footprint in green hydrogen and other sustainable chemistry markets.

The Field Software Engineer role within RDS is responsible for installing, configuring and testing Avantium specific, Microsoft, SQL software on the machines (Flowrence units) including minor hardware tasks, based on the specific requirements for both internal operations as well as our external customers. In addition, the Field Software Engineer trains the customer in using the software and in solving problems. He or she carries out the work in house or at the customer side as agreed in the maintenance and support contracts, supports during the build in of retrofits and gives the necessary support (remotely or at customers’ premises). 

Responsibilities

• Installing, configuring, updating and testing the software (Avantium specific, Microsoft, SQL ) and dedicated databases in close cooperation with the project teams to allow them to run their experiments
• Translation of operating modes and procedures in sql scripts for execution
• Performing commissioning, customer training and supporting users in processing data and getting the right information from the databases
• Performing maintenance and support at customer side or in house, supports during the build in of retrofits and provide remote support to customers
• On time informing Project Leaders and Team leader Customer Service about status, progress, issues etc. when working on projects. Escalates in time to the proper parties when severe issues arise
• Participating in further development of our research platform by taking part in multidisciplinary teams and providing expertise on software and databases
• Capturing feedback from both internal and external customers and register issues into the Issue database for follow up actions
• Be the first point of contact for customers when working at customer sites and maintaining good customer relationships

What do you bring?

As Field Software Engineer you minimally require a minimum of 2 relevant years of experience.

This role is perfect for you if you have the following knowledge and Skills:

• MBO+ or HBO Informatics or technical direction with specialization in IT. 
• Two years of experience in installing, operating and maintaining SQL Server databases and scripts (in Transact-SQL). Affinity with databases and software development.
• Experience with creating databases in both Microsoft SQL Server and Access
• Good theoretical knowledge of databases structures and table design
• Knowledge of all Microsoft Operating system and Windows Network configuring
• Command of English (speaking and writing)
• Extensive Knowledge of MS Office suite (including Word and Excel)
• Experienced with working in an international environment and cultural challenges
• Experience with frequent travelling and ad hoc changes in planning
• Willing to travel all over the world up till 50% of the time
• Experience with Developing Software, preferably in C# (desirable)
• Experience in or knowledge of Process or Lab Automation (desirable)
• Experience in working with ERP software, preferably MS Navision (desirable)
