Robbert de Graaf has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Robbert started their career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, where they conducted research in chemical physics and product technology. Robbert then worked at AkzoNobel in multiple functions, including innovation team leader, business development manager, and project manager. After that, they joined Polyganics BV as Chief Science Officer, overseeing R&D, product pipeline development, IP management, and regulatory affairs. Following their time at Polyganics, they joined DSM as Head of Technology, Color Lab & Tolling operations, responsible for product development and process improvement. Robbert later served as the Head of Research and Development at Cabot Norit Activated Carbon. Currently, they are serving as the Director of Technology and Innovation at Avantium, where they lead the development of innovative chemistry technologies and provides catalysis products and services to organizations.

Robbert de Graaf has a strong education background in both Physics & Mathematics and Chemical Engineering. Robbert completed their high school diploma in Science & Business Administration at RSG Hogeland in 1986. Robbert then earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Groningen in 1987, followed by a Master's degree in the same field from the same institution in 1990. In 1995, they obtained their PhD in Physics & Mathematics from the University of Groningen. In 2017, they attended the Cabot College Executive Leadership Program at Babson College. Additionally, in 2011 they obtained a certification in ISO 13485 - Medical Devices - Quality Management Systems.
