Director Global EHS Processes And Compliance at Avantor

Richard Fluharty, CSP, CFPS has extensive work experience in the field of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Richard began their career at DuPont as a Safety Technician intern. Richard then worked for FMC Corporation as a Safety Coordinator, where they led the Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs for two locations.

Fluharty later joined Celanese as a Safety Engineer, where they managed safety compliance and program management for various procedures and provided safety training. Richard also served as the Corporate Fire Protection and Safety Leader, developing company-wide safety policies and procedures and implementing a comprehensive fire protection program.

At Honeywell, Fluharty held multiple roles, including Global Safety and Health Special Emphasis Leader, Small Sites HSE Leader, and Regional Safety Manager and Business Point of Contact. In each role, they focused on improving safety systems, conducting audits, and managing incident investigations.

Currently, Fluharty holds positions at Avantor. Richard initially served as the Global Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety, overseeing Avantor's global EHS vision and ensuring compliance with regulations. Richard is currently the Director of Global EHS Processes and Compliance, where they are responsible for standardizing EHS programs and cultural improvements, while also leading internal audit programs and compliance initiatives.

Throughout their career, Fluharty has consistently demonstrated leadership and a commitment to promoting a culture of safety and compliance within organizations. Their experience spans various industries and includes extensive involvement in audits, training, and program development.

Richard Fluharty, CSP, CFPS has a Master's of Science in Safety Management from West Virginia University, obtained in 1997. Richard also holds a Bachelor's of Science in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering - Industrial Risk Management from Eastern Kentucky University, obtained between 1994 and 1996. In addition to their degrees, they have various certifications including Certified Fire Protection Specialist (obtained in 2014), OSHA 500: Trainer Course for Standards in Construction Industry (obtained in September 2005), Hazardous Waste Management (obtained in 2005), OSHA 501: Trainer Course for OSHA Standards in General Industry (obtained in October 2003), Certified Safety Professional (obtained in 2002), Emergency Medical Technician (obtained in December 1997), and Hazardous Material Technician (obtained in September 1996).
