Raj Shetty

Raj Shetty has a diverse range of work experience in the technology industry. Raj started their career at Crystal Specialties International in 1996, where they worked as a Process Engineering Manager and Process Development Engineer. In this role, they focused on research and development as well as production of GaAs materials for use in the IR/visible LED and laser-diode industries.

In 2005, Shetty joined Crystal IS as the Director of AlN Production. Here, they specialized in aluminum nitride bulk single crystal production for UV-LEDs using a unique physical vapor transport process. Raj also played a key role in transitioning processes from R&D to pilot production and developed and managed crystal growth and source material synthesis systems.

In 2010, Shetty moved to ARC-Energy as the Director of Technology - Development. In this position, they focused on the development of process technology and equipment for single crystal sapphire production for commercial use in mobile device screens and LED wafers. Raj demonstrated the capability of newly designed furnace systems for sapphire production and commissioned new systems at customer sites in Asia.

Since 2016, Shetty has been working at AXT, Inc. as the Director of Technology. Here, they are responsible for the development of III-V compound semiconductor and single element germanium crystal wafer products used in various technologies such as LED, IR-LED, LD (EEL/VCSEL), micro-LEDs, RF power amplifiers, and satellite solar cells. Raj'srole involves enhancing quality, yield, size, and capacity of the products, as well as optimizing process technology and designing high temperature process equipment.

Raj Shetty has a BE degree in Chemical Engineering from NITK Surathkal. Raj also holds an ME degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). In addition, Raj has completed their MS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University.
