Jeannine Smith has a diverse work experience spanning across various industries. Jeannine started their career as a Software Engineer at Ungermann-Bass in 1984, where they worked on real-time software for routers and other networking gear. Jeannine later moved to Protocol Engines, a startup, where they worked as a Software Engineer and co-invented a unique CPU design. In 1991, Jeannine joined Silicon Graphics as a Principal Engineer and became the first female principal engineer in the company's history. Their responsibilities included kernel networking, video conferencing applications, video APIs, and film/video applications.
Jeannine then joined Shutterfly in 1999 as the Chief Engineering Officer and played a key role in developing early image processing and printing automation software. Jeannine was promoted to SVP of Operations in 2005, where they led all engineering and internet operations teams.
In 2008, Jeannine transitioned to working at Fotomoto as the SVP of Operations and a Board Member. Jeannine contributed to the commerce solution for professional photographers and large image libraries until the company was acquired by liveBooks in 2012.
From 2011 to 2014, Jeannine served as an Advisor at Skybox Imaging, a company that provided high-resolution imagery and HD video of the Earth through microsatellites. This venture was later acquired by Google.
In 2013, Jeannine became a Board Member at Adolescent Counseling Services, an organization dedicated to empowering youth in the community through social-emotional support and building safe communities. Their involvement continued until 2018.
Jeannine also had a role as an Advisor at Deliv, a crowdsourced, same-day delivery service that partnered with large retailers to improve customer experience. Their tenure at Deliv ended in 2019.
Most recently, Jeannine has been working at Backblaze since 2016. Jeannine started as the Head of Business Analytics, leading the company's analytical efforts. In 2021, they transitioned to the role of Principal Business Intelligence Analyst.
Jeannine Smith earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, graduating between 1978 and 1983.
