Industrial Design Lead at Backbone

Matty Martin has a strong background in industrial design and has worked in various roles throughout their career. Matty is currently the Industrial Design Lead at Backbone, starting in November 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Cruise as a Senior Industrial Designer from July 2021 to November 2022. Matty also has experience as a Freelance Industrial Designer, working with various companies and startups from March 2019 to July 2021. Some of their clients during this time included Walmart, Shaper Tools, Backbone, Pioneer, Cisco-Meraki, and Occuspace. Before that, they were a Principal Industrial Designer at IDEO from July 2018 to March 2019, where their focus was on exploratory design thinking. Matty also held the role of Design Lead at Shaper from February 2015 to December 2017, helping the company launch successful crowdfunding campaigns and grow its team. Prior to that, they worked at Google as an Industrial Designer on the Glass team from 2011 to October 2014, where they played a significant role in shaping the product and its ecosystem. Matty's career started in 2010 as an Industrial Design Intern at fuseproject, where they provided support on various projects. Matty also had a previous internship at Shape Field Office in 2009.

Matty Martin attended Pratt Institute in 2006-2007, where they studied Industrial and Product Design. They then went on to study Industrial Design at California College of the Arts from 2007 to 2010, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.
