Tayfun Eldem has extensive experience in the mining industry, holding various leadership positions in both operational and executive roles. Tayfun began their career at Iron Ore Company of Canada in 1989, where they worked as an Electrical Supervisor, Maintenance Engineer, and eventually became a Senior Engineer leading a major capital project. After that, they joined Foxboro Canada Inc. as Manager of Engineering & Customer Services for the mining and minerals sector. In 1997, they returned to Iron Ore Company of Canada as the Superintendent of Processing Operations, overseeing operations, maintenance, and engineering activities. Tayfun then joined Rio Tinto in 2000 as Vice President, initially responsible for overseeing expansion projects and later managing company operations. In 2011, Eldem became President & CEO of Alderon Iron Ore Corp., leading the company's development and production efforts. Tayfun then joined Hatch in 2015 as Managing Director, responsible for business development and project delivery functions. Most recently, Eldem served as the Group EVP and Chief Operating Officer at Baffinland.
Tayfun Eldem's education history begins in 1982 at Lester B. Pearson College (UWC), where they obtained their International Baccalaureate degree. From 1984 to 1989, Eldem attended Dalhousie University, earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical. In 1998, they pursued a Certificate in Operations Management at the Ivey Business School at Western University. Finally, in 2004, Eldem attended the London Business School, completing a Certificate in Strategic Management with a focus on Strategic Leadership.
