Shankar Kaji Shakya

Shankar Kaji Shakya, Ph.D., is a bioinformatics data scientist at Ball Horticultural Company since March 2020, focusing on marker development using NGS data to enhance breeder selection processes and conducting targeted sequence capture analysis for R genes. Prior to this role, Shankar served as a research associate at Oregon State University for a brief period in late 2019 and spent five years as a graduate research assistant at the same institution, collaborating with J. R. Shankar's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Population Genetics from Oregon State University, completed from 2014 to 2019, and a Master of Science in Plant Pathology, Epidemiology, and Simulation Modeling from the University of Florida, where studies were conducted from 2012 to 2014. During the graduate assistantship at the University of Florida, experiments were performed in greenhouse and growth chamber settings to examine potato late blight disease dynamics.
