Andreas Putz

Andreas Putz has a diverse work experience in data science, scientific computing, technology futurism, and research and development. Andreas is currently working as a Principal Engineer in Data Science at Ballard Power Systems, leading a team to build a data processing portal and provide insights from fleet data. Prior to this role, Andreas worked as a Scientific Computing and Modeling Expert at their own consulting firm and as a Technology Futurist at MistyWest, where they defined the technology roadmap and represented the company at conferences and events.

Before their consulting work, Andreas was employed at MistyWest as the Discipline Lead for Software and Head of Internal Projects. In this role, they oversaw software and algorithm development, firmware development, machine learning, and cloud architecture for intelligent IoT edge devices. Andreas managed multiple projects for various clients and collaborated with the Microsoft Foundation, Amazon, and SRI International. Andreas also worked as an Applied Scientist and Computer Scientist at MistyWest, managing cross-functional teams and maintaining client relationships.

Prior to their time at MistyWest, Andreas served as a Technical Team Lead at AFCC Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp., where they led operations, modeling, and simulation projects. Andreas managed a team and delivered complex projects related to data science and mathematical modeling. Andreas also worked as a Senior Research Development Scientist and Research Scientist at AFCC, leading R&D modeling projects and deploying next-generation modeling tools for fuel cell testing. Andreas initiated collaborations with universities for microstructural simulations and was responsible for managing high-performance computing infrastructure.

Andreas started their career as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at The University of British Columbia, where they conducted extensive research, implemented mathematical models, and published research papers. Andreas also served as a Teaching Assistant for various courses in the Mathematics and Engineering department.

Andreas Putz has a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Applied Mathematics from The University of British Columbia. Prior to that, they obtained a Diplom Mathematiker degree in Applied Mathematics from the Technical University of Munich, where they studied from 1997 to 2003. In 2000-2001, they also participated in an Erasmus Student Exchange program at Aberystwyth University, focusing on Fluid Dynamics.

In addition to their formal education, Andreas has obtained several additional certifications. Andreas obtained an Agile Foundations certification from LinkedIn in January 2022. In April 2021, they received an edX Verified Certificate for Data Analysis: Statistical Modeling and Computation in Applications.
