Leon Chirino

Leon Chirino has extensive experience in the fields of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), information security, and project management. Leon has held various leadership roles in different organizations, starting with their current position as VP, GRC Product Manager at BankUnited, where they lead the implementation of a MetricStream GRC system. Prior to that, they served as Manager, Information Security and Risk Governance at Ally, overseeing GRC activities for the technology business units. Leon also worked as a First Line Risk Manager at Citizens, mapping and assessing cloud controls and creating new processes and controls to meet requirements.

Before that, Leon worked as a Senior IT GRC Consultant Manager at Elevate, providing IT GRC consultancy services for diverse industries and leading teams through industry and regulatory audits. Leon also served as VP, Information Security Manager at Amerant Bank, where they led the development and implementation of the bank's information security program and managed operational risk assessments. In addition, they held roles as a Senior Project Manager at Utiba and Mobile Financial Services and as a Carrier Project Manager at BlackBerry, overseeing the implementation of mobile financial services projects and smartphone launches in Latin America. Leon's earlier experience includes working as a Regional Project Manager at Protokol GIT, establishing and managing the Project Management Office for the company. Overall, Leon Chirino possesses a strong background in GRC, information security, and project management, with experience across multiple industries.

Leon Chirino obtained their BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering/Telecommunications from Universidad Metropolitana (VE) between 1985 and 1992. Leon later pursued a Master's Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University from 2000 to 2002, and another Master's Certificate in Project Management from Nova Southeastern University in 2010. In terms of certifications, Leon Chirino obtained the Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA) certification from ISACA in 2017, and the Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer™ (CDPSE™) certification from ISACA in 2020.
